I Rejected a Job Offer From Google. Then I Got Laid Off, Twice.

Part II: It Happens Again

Visiting the Spheres at Amazon’s Seattle headquarters. Looks like I’m letting myself get too comfortable with a job again. Haven’t I learned my lesson?

At the end of my last article, I had gotten my first full-time job offer rescinded less than a week after graduating from Brown. Soon enough, though, I had two new job offers. I did note, though, that this turnaround time had very little to do with my skills or merit.

If you didn’t read Part I yet, check it out here!

The first offer I received was from another crypto company named Circle that dealt with the USDC, a dollar-backed digital currency. They specifically pursued recruiting of new grads laid off by Coinbase under the philosophy that if we were good enough to have passed interviews there, they could expedite the process, saving HR resources and still obtaining good talent. My interviews with Circle honestly weren’t even that great, but I got lucky with the fact that Coinbase was one of the first tech companies (and probably the most reported on) to undergo layoffs at the time, so other companies were more than willing to pick up the scraps.
